Our burden
Church planting to the larger cities of America is the calling that God has placed on my life since early 2012. I have worked alongside church planters in Montana, as well as planted and pastored two churches in the Denver, Colorado Metro Area.
Early in my Christian walk, Matthew 28:19 became a personal burden and challenge in my life. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” This command is great, it is large, and it is every believer’s responsibility to partake in bringing others to the saving knowledge Jesus Christ.
While every believer is responsible for their part in the great commission. How can an individual reach the uttermost part of the earth when we are all limited to be physically present at one place at a time? While you cannot go everywhere, you can send someone while you serve in the place God has called you.
It would be our honor to be your representatives for hope found in Jesus Christ to Portland, Maine. There are 1.4 million people in the state, but one third lives in the Greater Portland Metro. With very little to no gospel light in the area, we have seen the fields and “they are white already to harvest.” As God placed the burden on our hearts, we took time to learn of this city that prides itself in every aspect of life except of its knowledge of Christ.
Portland is located on the southeastern coast Maine. Those who live there embrace its iconic beauty, historic old port waterfront, vibrant culinary scene, vast lighthouses, and "thriving arts community". Portland is rich in literary secular history; it is a diverse place with various ethnicities from all walks of life. Many of its citizens take great pride in their accessibility to drugs, alcohol, and lascivious living, proudly boasting their title as “The fourth gayest city in America”. Only 1% of the population of Maine would claim to hold a Biblical worldview.
The mythical Phoenix is the unofficial mascot of Portland. The city has burned to the ground four times in its history, and each time Portlanders have worked to recover. Rising from the ashes and rebuilding greater than before... however, there is a greater fire coming, one in which they will never recover from.
"But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeingthen that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" 2 Peter 3:7-12

It is this realization that burns within our hearts to reach the city with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! On the outside, they have everything they think they want and need: But we know that they are missing the only thing that can ever bring true joy and peace to their lives –
a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our passion is sharing the hope found within pages of Scripture. Our goal is to see souls saved and lives changed. Our desire is to plant a church in the greater Portland area. Our need is prayer. Our God is great and “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
